What a crazy weekend! J had Friday off, so he came in via train on Thursday night. It was nice to see him. I made my first pasta salad, which required Catalina dressing, making it red, making people not want to eat it just by the color - wasted (it was delicious though, it had a tang to it, but I will never make it again). Saturday was a great day. J and I decided to head to Hurricane Harbor, Six Flags to cool off from the hot LA weather. We knew it would be packed, but we didn’t think we would have to park like 3 miles from the entrance, which we ran to, btw.
I was shocked on how hot the cement had gotten. We passed this mom and toddler, and the little toddler was crying because he wasn’t wearing any shoes and the mom kept telling him to shut up (she was wearing shoes), she didn’t even realize that his poor little feet were getting burnt by the cement, I felt horrible. If I would have realized what was happening when I passed, I would have said something to the mom, but we were long gone before I realized the cement was on fire. I think J and I went on four different water rides before we decided to call it a day (the lines were at least 30 min to an hour wait each). J had found some rented tubes that no one claimed, so we took them down a few of the rides (it cut our wait time down about 30 minutes). Right before we were going to head out, we went to the wave pool, but alas, they were doing a routine drill (which happened on the hour for 15 minutes). We didn’t want to wait, so we left.
Saturday was the 4th of July! We woke up, went to get our nails done (J too – he got a pedi - no polish, of course). We ran some errands and then headed over to my friend Mr. A’s house for a BBQ party before the fireworks. We got to Mr. A’s a little too early, no one was there yet, in fact his family was still setting things up, oops. I thought it would take a little longer to get there, I miscalculated. Mr. A’s mom was a riot, love her! She was constantly hitting on J and telling us how useless the male sex is (except J, she said he was an exception, because he actually knows how to cook, clean, sew, iron, fix things, you name it, he can do it). She then asked him if he was a “MILF”. We both cracked up, I told her that she would be the “MILF”, not J, but we both knew what she was getting at. She was in LOVE. She even told J he could come back anytime to hang out, she was a character, she was awesome. About a half hour later Alex showed up (I thought he would have been there way earlier, like he said).
We all went swimming, ate, just relaxing, talking, etc. More people showed up, it was fun. J practiced some survival skills in the water for BUD/s training. Then all of a sudden J got silent and wouldn’t talk to anyone. This was frustrating, because the host, Mr. A, would ask him questions, and J would ignore them, so I ended up answering to not be rude. He did this the last two hours we were at the party. I thought we would just end up leaving, so it wouldn’t be awkward, but J sat it out, UNTIL right before the fireworks… That’s when he decided he had enough and wanted to leave – right before the fireworks – URGH! So, we left and went home… missing pretty much all of them, but a random few here and there. I feel less of an American if I don’t celebrate 4th of July (including watching the fireworks), I don’t know why that is (maybe because my parents always made a big deal of it when we were kids?)… J could care less.
Sunday, I took J to the train rather early because I refused to miss dance class again. I dropped him off, sad to see him leave… Sunday’s used to be my favorite day of the week – just relaxing… now I don’t like them as much. I worked for a few hours, passed up a chance to hang with a friend that I hadn’t seen in a long time, because I felt that I needed to take a breath.
Today I had an ADR session for The Taken, which premieres back in Washington on August 23rd. I drove to the sound guy’s studio in Van Nuys, waited for him to set everything up for a half hour (after we were supposed to have started the session). I then watched my scene and did the ADR for it. By the time I left my throat was super sore from screaming so much (fyi - it’s a horror film).
Tomorrow – audition for a comedy web series.
PS- My AA Degree is all figured out. My school is allowing me four more years to complete that one science class (which gives me time to become a Cali resident once again).
