On Friday morning, Bobby woke us all (me and Yuka) up at 8am, although we did not get to bed till around 3am and I did not fall asleep till around 4:30am (my couch is not as comfortable to sleep on as I thought, so I crashed on the floor, of course while being a good host and letting Bobby and Yuka take my bed). We all showered and got ready for the day. I was planning on taking them to the Grove (my favorite place in LA) and if we had time, show them the Hollywood sign, Hollywood and Highland and Melrose.
We did not make it out of the house till around 10am and I had to stop at the post office to mail off J’s important package before we did anything else. We stopped at my PMB and they could not mail out my package, it had to go to the regular post office to get it pre-stamped for the return envelope, urgh. I take them to the Grove instead of finding a post office (I decided I wont waste anymore of their precious time). I took them quickly down Melrose, taking a side street to the Grove, but since we were driving in two different cars, they did not realize we were driving on Melrose…. Oops, my bad for not pointing it out.
We park at the Grove and head to the Farmer’s Market for breakfast. I tell them what I had just learned from Norway, which is that James Dean spent his last meal at the Grove (for breakfast) the day he died. They seemed to be excited to hear that bit of trivia. Breakfast was expensive and I wouldn’t let them pay for mine, since they had paid for dinner the night before, which I had really wanted J and I to pay for… I should have bought their breakfast, but I have been spending a lot of money lately, and not bringing in a whole lot, so I just paid for mine.
After breakfast, I showed them the fresh fruit stand. They grabbed some fruit for the road and Yuka was insistent on it being washed. Me, I could care less, and I am thinking she is being over paranoid, that maybe in Japan the fruit is bad if you do not wash it. I then realize that she needs it washed because there is no way that Bobby can get sick, the cancer itself is already too hard on his body, let alone getting sick while having cancer. Once I realized why she needed it washed, I then felt horrible and asked the lady to wash the fruit. She did.
Bobby was telling me what a great wife he had, she is always looking out for him, protecting him. She even went to the seminar for patients and family of people with cancer. It explains how to keep them clean and safe from germs, what foods to eat to help their body, etc. How sweet – these two are so in love, and who knows how much longer they will have… but I do not want to think about that and neither do they.
I take them through a few stores (Sur La Table, a kitchen store which I LOVE and Yuka now loves too), I show them the rest of the Grove and then we all decide we should get going… it is almost noon and I still have to mail off J’s package and get ready for my audition and they have an 11 hour drive ahead. We say our goodbye, which makes me sad, and Bobby almost starts to cry, but I refuse to cry, because I WILL see him again and he will be healthy, damnit! I really care about them… I love you guys!
