Assistant to the Regional Manager
Space StationI just started a new part time job to help bring in some extra income (since my main job limited my pay) as well as meet people within the entertainment industry. I am now the assistant at Space Station Studios, which is attached to Dream Big Casting (to where I still intern with casting agents Sherrie Henderson and Dan Velez). I just started on Wednesday, but so far I love it! My boss is extremely cool (I was even late to work by 20 minutes – which btw NEVER happens, I am ALWAYS early) and he didn’t mind as long as it did not happen when I opened up the office on my own, and it won’t.
It is funny how I got this job. After my first round as an intern at Dream Big, Sherrie and Dan brought me in their office for a meeting on where I wanted my career as an actor to go. I had just got back from an interview for a television show and the casting director was a complete asshole. I went into Sherrie and Dan’s office prepared with my goals for the next 10 years, but since my interview went so horribly and the last few auditions were not great either I was contemplating on staying in the acting industry. I was tired of having inconsistent pay checks, I was tired of feeling unstable, I was tired of the constant rejection (which normally I can handle but for a good month I was having issues). I explained to Sherrie and Dan how I was feeling and they tried to come up with a few ideas on what I could do. I told them I was still interested in casting and producing. Dan suggested a position opening up once they move which would be to manage the studio for Dream Big/Space Station. I told them I was interested and the following few weeks Marcus (manager of Space Station) came up to me and offered me a job!
My first day on the job a casting director and his brother came up to me and offered to refer me to an agency for sports fitness modeling. The brother works constantly and has a lot of say at the agency. I’ve always wanted to get into sports modeling, but I never thought my body was decent enough, but if the brother thought so, then maybe it is?! I’ve also had the chance to meet several other casting directors who wanted my business card and are interested in using me for future projects. I’ve always known that the acting industry is all about who you know, and again this proves my point.
I’m looking forward to moving to the new office in January where they may offer me a full time position as studio manager. The great thing about working for them is the fact that they understand I want to be an actress and are completely flexible with my hours for auditions. Life is great!
